Swing de Gitanes Monday hosts Boris Malkovsky - 8th March 20:30
The story of the guitarist Django Reinhardt and swing jazz of today. Tickets through the Conservatory office 04 8626014.
 
Swing de Gitanes ensemble consists of Oren Sagi (Double Bass) a highly active jazz musician who intelligently combines colorful virtuosic and rhythmic elements into the gypsy swing, thus contributing to the group's special "groove", Yacov Hoter (Guitar) a jazz musician, graduate of "Rimon School" and the Music Academy of Jerusalm, who fell in love with the style in his youth and traveled several times to Europe to study the basic principles of the gypsy playing technique, Ori Ben Zvi (Guitar) a jazz musician who studied in "Rimon School", joined the group after travelling to Holland in search of the music.  Boris Malkovsky - Bayan (button accordion) is one of the most promising musicians in the world of improvisatory music. On completing a successful European tour, Boris will appear in Israel with Swing de Gitanes just before he sets out on tour in the U.S.A.

Ensemble NAKEDVOICES, directed by Tamir Chasson, in a new program: MARCAPELLA LAVRY Saturday, 13.02.10, 20:00 Dunie Weizman Conservatory, Haifa NIS 60 tickets at phone: +972 (0)4 8626014 The vocal ensemble introduces a new program with some of the rare gems for choir a-cappella by the fabulous composer Marc Lavry. Also on the program are the motet O magnum mysterium by the American contemporary David Bennett Thomas, Victoria's Missa O magnum mysterium, as well as the Lamento d'Arianna a 5 & basso continuo by Monteverdi. The NAKEDVOICES have made a name through fresh and daring performances and recordings of sacred Renaissance music, as well as original contemporary pieces for choir a-cappella.
 
NAKED VOICES A unique ensemble of 17 young singers, which focuses mainly on performing a-cappella pieces from the Middle-Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque and occasionally performs contemporary pieces. This critically acclaimed young ensemble's debut took place in December 2004. Since then, it has performed at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Felicja Blumenthal International Music Festival (Tel Aviv Museum of Art), Sapir Academic College and the Beth Yitzhak Music Festival. The Naked voices performed with The Haifa Symphony Orchestra in the 2005 - 2006 concert series "Sacred & Profane" at the St. John's church in Haifa. The ensemble seeks to perform original Israeli pieces and as such, it premiered the motet Miserere Mei (2005) by Ella Milch-Sheriff, Psalm 51 (2004) and Du Temps Perdu for choir, harpsichord and computer by Yehezkel Raz.  Tamir Chasson - conductor, is the founder and music director of the NAKED VOICES. He was born in Israel. A disciple of Isaac Sadai, Noam Sheriff and Gary Bertini, he graduated from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. In 2004 he was awarded the Gary Bertini Award for Young Conductors in collaboration with the Israel Ministry of Culture. Chasson's conducting appointments have included: The Verdi Requiem, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and Fidelio at the Europהisches Musik Festival, Stuttgart, Germany; the Israel Chamber Orchestra at the Classi-Cameri Festival; the Israeli Opera Max & Moritz (Shohat), Giulio Cesare (Handel), A Journey to the End of the Millennium (Bardanashvilli), and Armide (Gluck); the Haifa Symphony Orchestra Don Giovanni (Mozart) and Le Nozze di Figaro in a co-production with the Israeli Opera. Tamir Chasson has appeared as a pianist and accompanist in the USA, Europe and Israel.

Israeli music focusing on Marc Lavry
On Saturday February 27th, the conservatory held a special concert (celebrating Lea Levin's 100th birthday) of Israeli Music featuring the composer Marc Lavry. Efrat Lavry Zaklad (Harpist) hosted the concert with pupils performing their own compositions and those of Ben Haim and Marc Lavry.

The Jonathan Levene Music Scholarship Concert and Award Ceremony took place on January 7th.
The Jonathan Levene Music Scholarship was founded as a Registered Charity 19 years ago in memory of Jonathan Levene, a young student from Bushey, England who died in a road accident at the age of 18. Its purpose is to provide financial help to needy and talented music students. He loved music and enjoyed playing the violin in his school orchestra and in a band. He would be pleased to know that the Scholarship is helping so many young students to develop their musical abilities.

The Conservatory celebrates 85 years of musical activity
The Conservatory celebrated 85 years of musical activity at the end of June with two major events. 1. An Orchestral Festival hosting orchestras from the Afula and Kiryat Yam Conservatories. 2. A gala concert in which the Conservatory Orchestra, conducted by Gal Alterovich, together with the vocal ensemble conducted by Shimon Ben Ami and several chamber ensembles took part.
