New Carmel Quartet Lecture/Concert Series
Concert #4 Thursday 12th June 2008 ******Who’s Afraid of Dissonance? Mozart: String Quartet in C major, K. 465 Dissonant Schoenberg: String Quartet no. 2, op.10 with Rona Israel-Kolat soprano The two works in this programme marked daring breakthroughs in musical language. Mozart’s dissonant introduction to the C major string quartet earned him sharp criticism from his contemporaries who considered it full of “misprints” while others reacted to this music as one of Mozart’s greatest musical inspirations. New concert series in cooperation with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra
Petite Suite --- Next concert, Monday 26th May at 17:30. The Dunie Weizman Conservatory in cooperation with The Haifa Symphony Orchestra is holding a series of 4 introductory sessions to the HSO's Family concerts. The sessions will be held at the Dunie Weizman Conservatory on the Monday, one week prior to each concert. Ilan Rogoff - guest soloist of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, gave a Piano recital and Master class in January 08.
ILAN ROGOFF is a multifaceted artist, welcomed internationally by Concert Series, Orchestras and Music Festivals. While recognized primarily for his interpretations of the Romantic composers, his repertoire for the piano ranges from Bach to Piazzolla, with concerti dedicated to him by John McCabe and Ivan Eröd. His activities range from piano recitals to conducting cycles of Mozart or Beethoven concerti from the keyboard, participating in Chamber Music concerts, transcribing, performing, editing and recording works by Piazzolla for piano solo, or directing master classes in half a dozen languages on a variety of subjects (Beethoven Sonatas & Concerti, Piazzolla, Chopin's music at the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Brasilian Music in Rio de Janeiro,etc), an activity he particularly enjoys with young musicians.

Tamir Chasson and the Naked Voices
The NAKED VOICES performed at a special concert on 29th December. 17 young musicians who focus on singing a cappella music of diverse styles and eras. The group's repertoire consists of liturgical music (both Jewish and Christian), secular music and folk songs in original arrangements. The ensemble have premiered so far the motet Miserere Mei (2005) by Ella Milch-Sheriff, Psalm 51 (2004) and Du Temps Perdu for choir, harpsichord and computer by Yehezkel Raz. TAMIR CHASSON, conductor, is the founder and music director of the NAKED VOICES. He was born in Israel. He conducted the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis and Fidelio at the Europäisches Musik Festival, Stuttgart, Germany and conducted the Israel Chamber Orchestra at the Israeli premiere of Letter from Warsaw (Pasatieri) at the Yad Va-Shem Holocaust Museum. Recently he conducted in Vilnius the St. Matthew Passion (Bach) in collaboration with the Jauna Muzika choir and the St. Christopher Orchestra. At the Haifa Symphony Orchestra he conducted Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart) and Madame Butterfly (Puccini). At the Israeli Opera he conducted Max & Moritz (Shohat), Giulio Cesare (Handel), Armide (Gluck), Il Viaggio a Reims (Rossini), and was associate conductor in A Journey to the End of the Millennium (Bardanashvilli), He is currently music director of the Opera Studio at the Israeli Opera.
 
 

 
The Jonathan Levene Music Scholarship Concert and Award Ceremony took place on December 18th.
The Jonathan Levene Music Scholarship was founded as a Registered Charity 17 years ago in memory of Jonathan Levene, a young student from Bushey, England who died in a road accident at the age of 18. Its purpose is to provide financial help to needy and talented music students. He loved music and enjoyed playing the violin in his school orchestra and in a band. He would be pleased to know that the Scholarship is helping so many young students to develop their musical abilities.

The recorder ensemble performed at the “Renaissance 2007” Festival in Yehiam
The recorder ensemble directed by Tali Liron performed at this year's Renaissance Fesitval at the Yehiam Fortress. The festival’s program included musical events, dance and theater in the romantic spirit of the Middle Ages.
 
 

 
Young pupils in the headlines
Elias Elias the 9 year old violinst has received the prestigious America Israel Culture Foundation's Scholarship. Mazal Tov to Elias and to his teacher Dalia Jacob. ---- Ron Dubrov the 9 year old piano and cello student performed the role of Delore in Puccini's opera, Madame Butterfly which was produced this summer by the Haifa Symphony Orchestra. The opera was conducted and directed by Tamir Chasson.

Piano Duo - Maya Hartman and Noam Sivan
Noam Sivan - graduate from Manuela Sivan's piano Class and his wife, Maya Hartman gave an exciting concert at the conservatory on August 29th. The programme included 24 Chopin Preludes, a Haydn Sonata and pieces for two pianos by Bartok and Debussy Fetes - arranged by Ravel. The encore was a compostition composed by Noam which premiered on the night of their wedding last summer.
